Overview

General Statement of Duties:  

Responsible for assisting the Sr. Manager Data Analytics/Governance with managing usage of SAS and TIDAL to implement automation through controlled and methodical means.  Ability to build and interpret business requirements documents and translate defined requirements into detailed, field-specific data extracts using SAS or SQL. Work in coordination with operational management, analysts/advocates, system managers, DBAs and Product Development to ensure SAS related enhancements are fully researched, specified and documented in order to provide continued support and maintenance. Assist with defining opportunities to improve business processes and support critical business strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the creation of SAS reports. The use of SAS requires prior working knowledge of the SAS product and SQL Language. The ability to create SQL statements to access the data warehouse tables.  SAS is a complicated tool that requires a high degree of proficiency.   Decisions impacting our client’s business are made based on queries provided by SM&S.  It is critical that the queries are accurate and timely.

Responsible for the integration of SAS with other internal products, including SQL, TIDAL, local tables, Automation processes and Web process.

Through effective communication with management and other SM&S staff, assist in the design, development and implementation of SAS programs.  Build and interpret business requirements documents and translate defined requirements into detailed, field-specific data extracts using SAS or SQL.  Have a good understanding of the business in order to translate often undefined requests into meaningful data.

Assist manager with the following:  determining what level of SAS user should create requested queries; providing continuing education on SAS usage; ensuring SAS is being used efficiently and effectively; implementing controls around the SAS process.

Keep informed on SAS technology; attending seminars, training classes, conferences, to continue to build knowledge.

Analyze processes, procedures, techniques regarding SAS and TIDAL to ensure the best methods are being utilized.  Recommend solutions and new methodologies. Be able to quickly diagnose and correct problems with the SAS queries.

TIDAL:

Responsible for the scheduling of SAS queries on TIDAL as well as the continued maintenance and monitoring of those queries on TIDAL.   Ensure TIDAL is being used efficiently and effectively, implementing controls around TIDAL.

System Help Desk:

Resource for SAS and TIDAL related questions from all staff levels.  Respond to questions about system queries requiring further research and analysis.   Provide SAS and TIDAL related support and act as system representative for internal meetings pertaining to query/data discussions. Provide support for projects and focus groups.   Use knowledge of the organization and environment to effectively consult through complex situations.

Technology:

Achieve and maintain a current working knowledge of technology application development standards and processes, data transmission standards, industry standards, and XML standards.  Attend seminars and conferences designed to build knowledge of the same.

Communications:

Provides regular and timely project status updates to Manager, Business Systems.  Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders.  Effectively communicate technical topics to non-technical audiences.

Federal, State and Guarantor Regulations: 

Responsible for achieving and maintaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of all federal, state, and guarantor regulations regarding the student loan program being serviced.  Ensure system changes meet the requirements through coordination with all affected parties and notify management if the change(s) are not implemented in the system timely.

Requirements:

  • Education/Experience:  .  Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent work experience using SAS and SQL. Minimum of 2 years of  SAS coding experience and  SQL experience.  Write, maintain, and support SAS Programs.
  • Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have experience using SAS, writing SQL queries, and knowledge of SQL Server or DB2.
